Rio de Janeiro – Last year saw a record in poultry slaughtering and egg production, according to data made public by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Wednesday (15). Poultry slaughtering hit 5.86 million, an increase of 1.1% in comparison to 2015, the highest volume since the start of the historical series in 1997.
Meanwhile, egg production reached 3.1 billion dozen in 2016, an increase of 5.8% over the previous year. The historical series started in 1987.
On the other hand, cattle slaughter declined 3.2% in the same comparison, ending last year with 29.67 million cattle. It was the third consecutive decline in cattle slaughtering, according to the institute.
