Brasília – The preliminary official inflation rate, as measured by the Extended National Consumer Price 15 (IPCA-15), came in at 0.35% in May. The rate fell in comparison to April (0.72%) but increased year-over-year (0.14%). According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, this is the greatest change in IPCA-15 for a month of May since 2016 (0.86%).
Year-to-date, IPCA-15 is 2.27% and 4.93% in the 12 months through May, above 4.71% saw in the 12 previous months, reported IBGE. May preliminary inflation rate was caused by transports (0.65%), health and personal care items, up 1.01% in the period.
