São Paulo – The Coopershoes, a cooperative of shoes and shoe component producers, is going to open a new factory in the city of Picada Café, in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The cooperative, which produces gym shoe brands Converse and All Star, is going to invest a total of R$ 11 million (around US$ 5 million) in the new plant, to cover an area of 12,000 square metres.
Coopershoes already has a factory in the city and produces 23,000 pairs of gym shoes per day. The production will be increased to 30,000 pairs per day up to November next year. Around 90% of the shoes will be sold on the domestic market, and 10% will go to the Mercosur, the economic bloc that includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
This information was disclosed by newspaper Exclusivo, from Novo Hamburgo. Coopershoes was established four years ago and represents 134 associations. The inauguration of the new installations is scheduled for December 15.
