Rio de Janeiro – Productivity in the service sector grew on average 3.2% from 2007 to 2011. The information is part of the Annual Service Research (PAS) 2011, disclosed on Wednesday (28) by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
In 2011, the service sector had approximately 1.1 million companies. Together, they generated around R$ 1 trillion (US$ 420 billion) in net operating revenues and employed 11.4 million people. The spending was R$ 202.7 billion (US$ 85 billion) in salaries, disbursements and other remuneration.
The sector that reached the greatest growth in productivity was maintenance and recovery service (8.3% a year), followed by real-estate operations (7.9%). The sector with greatest growth in salaries, in turn, was professional, administrative and complementary services (3.4%), followed by information and communications services (3.7%).
