São Paulo – The Formula Santander Program, promoted by the Spanish bank, is accepting registrations until September 22 from graduate and postgraduate students interested in studying abroad. Universities are available to Brazilians in 19 different countries, including the New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), in the United Arab Emirates, which is participating in the project for the first time.
The grants are worth the equivalent of 5,000 euros each and there are 100 slots open to Brazilian students. The program is also available to students from Spain, the United Kingdom and Mexico. The grant is meant to cover air travel, lodging, food and other personal expenses during the course, for up to one semester.
In Brazil, students at 48 universities affiliated with the program are eligible. The list includes government institutions such as the University of São Paulo (USP) and the University of Brasília, and private institutions. The program gives precedence to students with outstanding academic performances, unfavourable socioeconomic conditions, and good knowledge of foreign languages.
The program was launched in 2010 and has benefited 300 Brazilian students. According to the Formula Santander website, the program’s goals are promoting the exchange of people, cultures and knowledge; creating new opportunities for collaboration and reciprocity; improving the academic background of Brazilian participants; and fostering research, technology and internationalization of academic activity.
Apart from the Emirati university, Brazilian students may also opt for institutions in countries like Belgium, United States, Portugal, Russia, United Kingdom, Spain and Poland, among others.
The New York University Abu Dhabi is affiliated with its namesake university in New York, in the United States. The Arab campus was after NYU delegates and Abu Dhabi government officials entered into a partnership in the academic year of 2005/2006.
