São Paulo – The PSA Group, French automaker of brands Peugeot, Citroën and DS, signed a letter of intent with Stafim, its partner in Tunisia, to assemble and sell Peugeot pickup trucks in the Tunisian market. Production is expected to start in 2018, according to a statement released by the company.
The project, whose initial production should be 1,200 units, to be sold in the local market, is part of the expansion plan announced by the automaker called “Push to Pass”. In this program, the pickup truck segment is introduced as one in which the company wants to have a presence worldwide.
The announcement of the agreement was made in Tunis during the Tunisia 2020 International Conference, which aims to promote investment opportunities in the African country.
Speaking to an audience that included Tunisia’s president, Béji Caïd Essebsi, and the French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, Jean Christophe Quémard, executive vice-president for Middle East and Africa, said that the company is reaffirming its commitments and goals for the country and the region, especially in new investments.
The investment amount for the production of the pickup truck wasn’t announced. In the statement, the PSA Group said only that it is one of the main contributors for the development of the automotive sector in Tunisia, with its sales volume surpassing EUR 250 million.
