São Paulo – The South American Soccer Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced this Wednesday (31) its new sponsor for its club competitions: Qatar Airways. According to a statement posted at CONMEBOL’s website, the agreement was signed on October 31, in Qatar’s capital Doha, by Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive of the Qatar Airways Group, and by José Astigarraga, CONMEBOL’s secretary general.
The agreement states that Qatar Airways is the official airline of CONMEBOL’s club competitions in South America for the next four and a half years. The agreement went into effect immediately and runs throughout the 2019-2022 business cycle. And it is already valid for the CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL Sul-Americana and CONMEBOL Recopa tournaments. “We are excited to continue expanding our presence in South America and to support the CONMEBOL competitions over the coming years,” said Baker in a statement released by CONMEBOL.
