São Paulo – The Public Works Authority of Qatar (Ashghal) has reopened the process for pre-qualification of local and international companies interested in operating in the construction of roads in the country. The government wants to have a data bank of companies that are experienced in “high quality and innovative infrastructures comprising of” road projects for the Expressway Programme.
“As the number of contracts and volume of work continues to increase, the PWA has decided to give other contractors the opportunity of being added to the existing pre-qualified list,” says the Ashghal document.
The works of the programme started last year and the contracts signed up to now total 16 billion Qatari rials (US$ 4.4 billion at current exchange rates), according to figures disclosed on the department site. The project forecasts the construction of 900 km of roads, avenues, viaducts, tunnels and other road structures.
According to the department press statement, over the next five years, the implementation of 27 different “construction packages” involving expressways and primary urban and rural routes in and around Doha are included.
To pre-qualify, companies should have the following requirements: minimum annual revenues of 1.5 billion rials (US$ 412 million) in the areas of infrastructure, roads and bridges over the last five years; successful conclusion of road projects over the last five years for an accumulated value of over 500 million rials (US$ 137.3 million); and audited balance sheets from 2008 to 2012.
To enrol, companies should register on the programme site (www.exwsupplier.com). According to the press statement, after registration, those interested should be receive user identification and a password to view the page. From then, it will be necessary to complete the company information so as to download the user guide and documents regarding pre-qualification.
Enrolment on the site was opened on July 28th and ends on August 28th, at 5:00 pm, Doha time, or 11 am, Brasília time. The deadline for submitting the pre-qualification form itself goes on to October 27th, also at 5:00 pm, Doha time, or three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +3:00).
