São Paulo – Youths from any country worldwide, newly graduated or in college, can apply for a Qatar Foundation education programme. The organisation has several education and research projects and is promoting the Leaners’ Voice, a programme through which youths are called to rethink education. Those selected will participate in the World Innovation Summit for Education (Wise), a meeting that takes place in Doha each year, under the organisation’s education programme.
To enrol, youths must be between 18 and 25 years of age. They may be nominated by the institutions to which they are connected or may enrol on their own. A total of 30 youths will be selected from all around the world, and academic performance is one of the main selection criteria. In last year’s edition, students were chosen from 24 countries: Canada, Bahrain, the Cameroon, Oman, Qatar, Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, the United States, Tunisia, the Netherlands, Haiti, Colombia, Jordan, Poland, Kenya, Indonesia, Egypt, France, Vietnam, the Philippines, Yemen and Sierra Leone. Brazil was not represented.
Entries must be made online up to 6:00 pm (GMT), or 3:00 pm (Brasilia time) on the 25th of June. The executive education program in which students participate combines virtual sessions, practical workshops and project execution. They also participate in conferences. Last year, for example, they participated in the World Youth Congress in Rio de Janeiro, and in the Asian Youth Forum, in New Delhi, India.
The main objective of the program is to cause youths to rethink education. The activities also help develop communication, entrepreneurship and leadership skills. The idea is that those participating should prepare to take on leadership roles in the field of education in their countries. Even after the year in which they were selected, participants may continue integrating a discussion group maintained by the Qatar Foundation. Currently, 78 youths, from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions are in the group.
The Wise world meeting this year will take place from the 29th to the 31st of October, in Doha. The forum also attracts education leaders from several parts of the world, to give lectures and participate in discussions. Over 1,000 people should participate, including prominent educators, entrepreneurs and political and social leaders from over 100 countries. The main goal is to inspire innovation in education and discuss plans for a global change.
