São Paulo – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) secretary-general Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi was honored Tuesday (25) by the ambassador from Qatar to Brazil, Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Shebani. AlBudaiwi was welcomed for a lunch in the residence of the ambassador that featured heads of diplomatic missions from GCC states in Brazil.
According to information made public by the Embassy of Qatar on social media, talks were held on the GCC-Brazil relations and how to improved them in areas of mutual interest. Qatar is part of the GCC alongside Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Besides the tribute in the Qatari ambassador’s residence, the GCC’s secretary-general is also scheduled to have a dinner in the Embassy of Kuwait and a meeting with Brazil’s prime minister Mauro Vieira.
According to information made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, the Latin American giant’s trade with the GCC states were over USD 16 billion in 2023, with Brazilian exports at USD 9.3 billion and imports from GCC states at USD 6.7 billion.
Qatar-Brazil
Trade between Brazil and Qatar stood at USD 1 billion last year, with USD 364 million exports from Brazil and USD 698 million exports from Qatar, according to data compiled by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). Brazil ships mostly chicken meat and iron ore to the Arab country, while Qatar exports mainly fertilizers and oil to Brazil.
