São Paulo – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported this Wednesday (2nd) that the Foreign National Registration (RNE) and the identity card can be requested for free by refugees in Brazil. The decision was taken by the Ministry of Justice. Usually, the RNE costs BRL 106.45 (USD 27.76), and the identity, BRL 57.69 (USD 15.04), according to the UN’s agency.
According to the national secretary of Justice, Beto Vasconcelos, the measure makes it easier for refugees to get their papers and is in line with similar others, such as the issuance of visas for people escaping the civil war in Syria.
