Brasília – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has released new virtual galleries of refugee photos. The pictures show people of various nationalities who live as refugees in France, Belgium, Bulgaria and Poland. Syrians living in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey are also pictured. the pictures were published under the following titles: "Asylum Tends in Industrialized Countries 2012," Refuge on the 6th Floor: Urban Refugees in Jordan " and "Syrian Refugees Keeping Occupied in Turkey’s Adiyaman Camp."
According to UNHCR data, conflicts in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia combined have contributed to a 8% increase in asylum requests in industrialized countries in 2012. A total of 479,300 requests were filed in 44 countries. The figure is the all-time since 2003, and consolidates steady increments ever since, with the exception of 2006.
