São Paulo – Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will arrive in the United Arab Emirates this Saturday (15) after his trip to China. The visit, at the invitation of the Arab country’s president Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the second official bilateral visit by the Brazilian leader to the UAE. The first occurred in December 2003, when Lula met with then president late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, considered the nation’s founding father (pictured above).
In the meeting, which had the presence of other members of the UAE government, the two leaders discussed ways to improve bilateral cooperation, mainly in the trade and economic areas. Sheikh Zayed also expressed gratitude to the Brazilian authorities for caring for the Arab community in Brazil.
Lula visited 10 Arab countries during his first two terms, from 2003 to 2011. They were Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria once; he also went to Qatar and Libya twice.
Last year, he also participated in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP27), in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on an unofficial visit, as president-elect.
