Rio de Janeiro – The volume of sales of Brazilian retail declined 0.4% in April over March, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Tuesday (16th). It was the third straight decline and contributed for the quarter’s average to reach -0.6%.
In the comparison with the same period of last year, the volume of retail sales declined even more (-3.5%). In 2015, the cumulative result is negative with 1.5%, while year-to-year there was an increase of 0.2%.
IBGE also released the nominal revenues of the sector, which increased 0.3% over March and 2.5% over April of last year. In 2015, retail revenues increased 4.7%, and year-to-year it reaches 6.4%.
Retail includes eight activities and the survey reports, besides them, the results of the extended retail, which adds to these eight sectors the sales of auto, auto parts and motorcycles and construction material. With the addition of these two activities, the results over April 2014 display even steeper declines. In sales volume, the extended retail declined 8.5%, and in nominal revenues, 2.7%.
