São Paulo – Brazilian retail sales grew by 0.3% in October when compared with the preceding month, according to the consulting firm Serasa Experian. The sales increase was driven by 0.4% higher sales at supermarkets and hypermarkets, and food and beverage sales, and a 0.7% increase in sales of textiles, clothing, shoes and accessories.
According to the survey, sales declined in other segments, especially furniture, electrical and electronic equipment, and computing equipment (-0.2%), fuels and lubricants (-1.2%), automobiles, motorcycles and their parts (-0.5%) and construction material (-0.5%).
Year-to-date as of October, there was a 9.1% increase in trade activity. Building material sales grew the most, at 11.4%, followed by fuels and lubricants, at 8.7%, and furniture, electronic and computing equipment, whose sales grew by 8.3%.
