Rio de Janeiro – Retail sales were up 1% in Brazil in April from March based on seasonally adjusted numbers, while nominal revenue increased by 1.3%. It was the best result for an April since 2006.
The numbers are from the monthly retail survey Pesquisa Mensal do Comércio (PMC), released this Tuesday (13) in Rio de Janeiro by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The growth in April came after two months of decline, with a combined rate of decline of 1.6%.
Despite the expansion in April, retail sales were down 1.6% in the four months through April from the year-ago period. However, revenue was up 1.5%.
As per non-seasonally adjusted figures, retail sales climbed 1.9% year-on-year in April. In the twelve months through April sales were down 4.6%, the lowest drop since January 2016.
