São Paulo – After levelling out somewhat in November, the Retailer Confidence Index (Índice de Confiança do Comércio – Icom) climbed 2.4 to 94.8 points in December. This was its biggest score since 95.8 points in July 2014 as per seasonally adjusted numbers. The quarter-moving average index climbed 1.8 for the fourth straight month.
The information was made public this Wednesday (27) in the Trade Survey (Sondagem do Comércio) from the Brazilian Institute of Economics (Ibre) at think-tank Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV). The Icom was up in 8 out of 13 segments in December from November.
The key driver in improving the final score was the Expectations Index (Índice de Expectativas – IE-COM), which saw a 4.9-point increase to 104.8, exceeding 100 points for the first time since reaching 102 points in March 2014.
