São Paulo – Coffee exports from Brazil to the Arab world grossed US$ 134.5 million from January to August, up 4.67% from a year ago. Volume shipped, however, dropped 4% to 894,810 60-kilo bags. The information was released this Thursday (10th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).
Total exports from Brazil reached US$ 4.087 billion, 1% more than in the first eight months of 2014. Overall, 23.4 million bags were shipped abroad, 1.2% less than a year ago.
In August alone, export revenues stood at US$ 451.7 million, down 22.2% from August of last year at 2.8 million bags sold, down 8.4%.
“This reduction of some 8% in coffee sales [in August] stems from a reduction in crops; this was expected and falls in line with our forecast of exporting 35 million bags in 2015,” said Cecafé CEO Guilherme Braga in a press release.
Region-wise, Europe was the leading destination of Brazilian coffee exports from January to August, followed by North America, Asia and South America. The top buying countries were United States, Germany, Italy and Japan.
