São Paulo – The second edition of the International Short Film Festival in Rio de Janeiro (FIC RIO) will feature two Arab titles. Among the 29 foreign films from 22 countries are the short Setback of the Spirit, from Jordan (15 min., 2017, directed by Sa’ed Arouri), and Stigma, from Iraq (15 min., 2020, directed by Jaafar Muraad). The online event will occur from April 25 to 30, and the films can be watched for free on the festival’s YouTube channel.
Other international titles in the show include productions from countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Austria, Jamaica, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, Russia, Argentina, Mexico, and Peru.
Among the national shorts are 58 titles from 15 states, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Bahia, Paraíba, Ceará, Minas Gerais, the Federal District, and Espírito Santo. The video clip show will have eight works between Brazil, Cuba, and the United States.
With the theme Diversity in Cinema, the 2nd FIC RIO will have the actress Léa Garcia as honoree; and director, screenwriter, and actress Júlia Katharine as a guest filmmaker. The festival’s curatorship formed by organizers Ivann Willig and Zeca Teixeira selected a total of 95 works, consisting of short films in the fiction, documentary, and animation genres and video clips.
