São Paulo – The Brazilian president, Dilma Rousseff, has arrived this Tuesday (11th) in Doha, Qatar, for an official visit. She will be welcomed this Wednesday (12th) by the Qatari emir, Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, and by the chairperson of the Qatar Foundation, Mozah Bint Nasser, before travelling to Australia, where she is attending the G20 Summit next Saturday (15th) and Sunday (16th).
On arrival in Doha, Rousseff was welcomed by the Qatari minister of Energy and Industry, Mohamed bin Saleh Al-Sada, the Qatari ambassador in Brazil, Mohammed bin Ahmed al Hayki, and the chargé d’affaires of the Brazilian embassy in Doha, Viviane Rios Balbino.
This Wednesday, Rousseff is meeting with emir Al Thani at 10:00 am. In a statement released this Tuesday (11th), the Brazilian Presidency reports that the two heads of state will discuss subjects such as diplomatic and commercial ties between the two countries, the furthering of said ties via bilateral investment promotion, the political scenario in the Middle East, interconnectivity in air transport and cooperation with other countries. Other topics may also be discussed.
Rousseff will thank the Qatari emir for the Qatar-Brazil 2014 Year of Culture, which marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and announce that Brazil can assist Qatar in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup by sharing its experiences with the event, which Brazil has hosted this year.
Following the meeting with the emir, Rousseff will convene with the Qatar Foundation chairperson and then travel to Australia. Rousseff is travelling alongside the Brazilian minister of External Relations, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado.
