São Paulo – Royal Air Maroc is expanding its operations in Brazil with the addition of another weekly flight and increase in seat capacity. Since last Sunday (11), the airline is operating four weekly flights to the country taking off from its main hub in Casablanca. Before, the company had three weekly flights to Brazil. Plus, in October, a larger plane will be used in this same route.
According to the director general of Royal Air Maroc in Brazil, Mehdi Yaalaoui, the company is aiming to expand its presence in Brazil through a route with a large passenger flow. Royal Air Maroc used to operate a flight between Casablanca and Rio de Janeiro until 1992, when it withdrew from the country.
It came back in 2013 with three weekly flights to São Paulo. In May of this year, the company also added flights between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and Rio de Janeiro and Casablanca. Now, it has added another weekly flight to Brazil between the three cities.
According to Mehdi, the company will announce more actions in the next few months. The replacement of the plane flying the routes between Morocco and the Brazilian cities is scheduled for October 30. Currently flying these routes is a Boeing 767 with capacity for 240 passengers, which will be replaced by a new 787 with capacity to 273 passengers.
Until the end of the year, the company should implement another change. It will start to operate from Terminal 3 of the Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo. Currently, its flights arrive and take off from Terminal 2. Terminal 3 is used exclusively by international flights. According to Mehdi, this change will be made in November.
