São Paulo – Brazil received 50.3% more from cereals exports to the Arab countries year-to-date through November 2019 from a year ago, according to information from the Ministry of Economy compiled by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Sales stood at USD 1.03 billion.
The most sold cereal was corn at USD 1 billion. Exports of the product to the Arab market climbed by 47.3% year-to-date through November from a year ago, when it stood at USD 681.2 million. Corn accounted for 97.6% of the sales of cereals from Brazil to the Arab countries. It also saw an increase in volume, by 50%, from 3.9 million tonnes to 5.9 million tonnes.
Rice was the second most exported cereal from Brazil to the Arab world year-to-date through November. It grossed USD 24.4 million, up 720%, since last year sales stood at just USD 2.9 million. Another cereal that Brazilians exported to Arabs was sorgo, but for a much smaller value.
Taken together, the Arab countries made up the largest foreign market for cereals from Brazil. Second to them is Iran, followed by Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea. Among the Arabs, Egypt was the top destination, since it buys much corn from Brazil. The Arab countries that imported over USD 1 million in cereals from Brazil are Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Algeria, UAE, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, Oman, and Kuwait.
