São Paulo – The Moroccan-born, Brazilian-based artist Abdelaziz Bahsain has just inaugurated a store in Florianópolis, in the state of Santa Catarina, where he offers items ranging from art and decoration objects with Arab motifs to furniture painting and restoration services.
“I have decided to set up this shop because many of my customers order Arab-themed furniture pieces and decorative items,” explains Bahsain. The store La Maison de Maroc is located in the Campeche neighbourhood, in the south side of the island city of Florianópolis.
The pieces of furniture available include tables with arabesque-laced tops, shelves, and benches. There are also mirrors in typical Moroccan style. Pictures by the artist are also available, including oil on canvas, acrylic, and India ink, as are cushions bearing Arab motifs, quilts, curtain sets, and tunics.
Bahsain also offers internal and external house painting services, with or without Arab motifs. The artist restores wooden furniture, and is seeking out partners to manufacture pieces of furniture he designs himself.
The store will also host exhibits of Bahsain’s work, and art lessons. “We will teach painting and Arabic calligraphy,” he says. Born in Tetouan, Bahsain studied at the National Fine Arts nstitute, and has lived in Brazil for three years now. He takes part in exhibits and gives lectures.
