São Paulo – The debate “The world as a stage for refugees: a reflection on political displacements” will take place this Saturday (14th) at the closing of a photo exhibit on the same subject. The conversation will happen at 5 pm at the São Paulo Cultural Center, with mediation from the Institute of Arab Culture (Icarabe) cultural director Geraldo Adriano Godoy de Campos.
The event is held by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the United Nations Information Centre in Brazil (UNIC Rio) with backing from Icarabe. The meeting will feature the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Luiz Fernando Godinho Santos, the professor of International Law at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), the coordinator of university chair Cátedra Sérgio Vieira de Melo, João Amorim, and the coordinator of policies for migrants at the Municipal Secretariat for Human Rights and Citizenship, Paulo Illes.
The photo exhibit features 40 pictures and five short films from the UNRWA archive. It portrays cases of forced migration in modern history, related human rights violations, and the challenges facing Palestine refugees. The exhibit, also at the São Paulo Cultural Center, will be open until Sunday (15th).
