São Paulo – The 24th São Paulo Restaurant Week will run from Friday (29) to April 21. Out of the 190-or-so participating restaurants, four serve Arab food – Farabbud, which has two addresses, Tahin which has three, Bekaa, and Arabia, with one unit each.
The restaurants offer fixed-price menus for lunch and dinner, including entrée, main course and dessert. Conventional meals go for BRL 46.90 for lunch and BRL 58.90 for dinner. Premium meals – featuring award-winning dishes, special ingredients and more elaborate recipes – cost BRL 68 for lunch and BRL 89 for dinner, with reservation required. Prices do not include service fees or beverages.
This edition is themed “Farm to Table,” highlighting the importance of fresh season ingredients and locally-sourced items. Featured restaurants serve contemporary, Italian, French, Argentinian and Peruvian food, as well as cuisines from Brazilian regions such as the Amazon. Vegetarians options are also available from some restaurants (check menus online before going).
A press release quoted Restaurant Week CEO Fernando Reis as saying the event is designed to afford opportunities and access to good food at more affordable prices.
The Arab restaurants are: Farabbud’s Vila Nova Conceição (R. Diogo Jacome, 360) and Moema (Al. dos Anapurus, 1253) units; Tahin’s Consolação (R. Fernando de Albuquerque, 255), Pinheiros (R. Vupabussu, 71) and Market Place (Av. Dr. Chucri Zaidan, 902) units; Bekaa (R. Jamanari, 330, in Vila Andrade); and Arabia (R. Haddock Lobo, 1397, Cerqueira César).
Lunch options from Arabia include hummus and avocado entrée, rice vermicelli, artichoke stuffed with meat and seasoned dry curd sauce – the place’s flagship dish (pictured above).
Tahin serves a vegetarian option including falafel and hummus, tabbouleh salad (parsley, mint, onion, tomato, wheat, olive oil, salt and lime) and rice with lentils, for lunch and dinner, in all its three addresses. Farabbud’s two units will serve raw salmon kibbeh as a dinner entrée option – fresh chopped salmon and chives, sweet-and-sour ginger and pepper, cayenne pepper, lemon cream, and zaatar-seasoned toast on the side. Bekaa, which is owned by the same network as Farabbud, opened in December last year, and is taking part in the event for the first time.
Instituto Cesar Cielo will get BRL 1 per meal sold, and the final sum will go to projects designed to encourage swimming and new sports talents. The institute caters to 200 children and adolescents.
Invoices can also be donated to special-needs children’s parents and friends association APAE-SP (Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais), via the Nota Fiscal Paulista app. Donations to Instituto Cesar Cielo and APAE-São Paulo are both optional and to be made upon payment.
