São Paulo – The São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) registered its largest daily turnover since the beginning of the Real Plan, halfway through 1994, in which the current Brazilian currency, the real, was installed. In the month, an average of 89,088 deals were made a day, with an average turnover of R$ 2.7 billion (US$ 1,3 billion, at current exchange rates). The January average was R$ 2.2 billion (US$ 1.04 billion), with 77,640 deals.
The total turnover in February was R$ 48.3 billion (US$ 22.9 billion) as against R$ 46.3 billion (US$ 21.9 billion) in January. Oil giant Petrobras, mining company Vale do Rio Doce and Bradesco bank shares are among the most traded. This information was provided by a spokesperson for Bovespa.
