São Paulo – The Kuwait Cultural Week in São Paulo kicks off next Thursday (5) featuring a photo exhibit, Arabic calligraphy, handicraft, a lecture on the teaching of Arabic, and music performances. The event is held by the Embassy of Kuwait in Brasília and the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
Kuwait sustains cultural agreements with 73 countries, and the Embassy said most have played host to similar cultural week events – including Latin America’s Chile and Venezuela. This year, it’s Brazil’s turn.
Kuwaiti photographer Hamed Al Umeiri, calligrapher Farid Al Ali and a delegate from Kuwait’s heritage and handicraft department, Hussein Abdullah Mohammed, will be at the photo exhibit Villa Lobos Park library each morning throughout the week. The exhibit opens on Friday and runs until Monday, and admission is free. The library is open from 9:30am to 6:30pm. Pictured above is one of Al Umeiri’s featured photos.
On Saturday (7), the library will host a free lecture on the teaching of Arabic language in Brazil, delivered by a delegate from the Paraná Islamic Charity Center, from 9am until noon.

Kuwaiti music will be played by the Al Takht group and conductor Ayoub Khader, on the 7th, from 2pm to 3pm at the Immigraton Museum; and on the 8th on Avenida Paulista, 283 (the Arab Chamber headquarters site). The group will also perform at a guests-only event at charity Lar Sírio on the 6th.
The cultural week’s guests-only opening ceremony will take place on Thursday evening at the Chamber. Kuwait’s ambassador to Brasília, Nasser Almotairi, will travel to São Paulo to join the festivities.
Kuwait’s National Council of Culture, Arts and Literature said in a note that the event is enriching of Kuwait’s culture and gives the Arab country a chance to showcase its customs and traditions around the world, and that the Cultural Week represents the friendly relations that Brazil and Kuwait have. amigável entre os dois países. It also said Kuwait and Brazil are linked by their devotion to culture and peace.
“This is an invaluable opportunity to showcase Kuwait to Brazil, through Islamic Arabic calligraphy, photographs of Kuwait landmarks, fashsion items and folk heritage, including documents and rare ancient collections from the House of Kuwait, and the contemporary and folk music,” the note reads.
