São Paulo – The oil industry will convene in Rio de Janeiro from September 15th to 18th during the exhibition and conference Rio Oil & Gas. The 1,300 Brazilian and international exhibiting companies will include the government-owned Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil company. The fair is held every two years since 1982.
“Saudi Aramco always attends major global oil and gas industry events,” the secretary general of the Brazilian Oil, Gas and Biofuels Institute (IBP), Milton Costa Filho, has told ANBA by email. The IBP is the exhibition’s organizer. “The huge investment in the pipeline for Brazil and the technologies developed in the country are interesting to Saudi Aramco,” he added.
The organizers are expecting participants from 30 different countries. “And judging from past editions, many of these will be Arab countries,” said Costa. He noted, however, that he expects attendance from Arab enterprises to increase in the future. “These companies are looking to invest in Brazil’s booming market, and this should lead to an increase in international attendance at the event,” he said.
According to the executive, apart from oil companies, exhibitors will include products and services suppliers to the industry, government organizations and NGOs. The fair will feature 14 national pavilions representing the following countries: United Kingdom, United States, Norway, France, China, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Argentina, Austria, Finland, Poland, Singapore and Holland.
“In each (pavilion) there will be executives from several companies looking for partnerships, and local suppliers, and to place their products on the Brazilian market,” said Costa. In addition to the exhibition, the event will host national and international matchmaking events. “Our role is to foster meetings and discussions between buyers and suppliers,” he said.
On the visitor side, organizers are expecting 55,000 people, including industry professionals, university and technical students, business executives, delegates from sector organizations and officials from government agencies.
For the first time in this edition, according to Costa, the event will also host luncheons with lectures sponsored by Shell, Total, the Brazilian Oil Services Industry Association (Abespetro) and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A., a company established by the Brazilian government to manage and oversee joint oil exploration contracts at fields in Brazil’s pre-salt area. The lectures will be delivered by executives from these companies: Jorge Santos Silva; from Shell; Ladislas Paszkiewicz, from Total; Oswaldo Pedrosa Junior, from Pré-Sal Petróleo; and Petrobras Exploration and Production director José Miranda Formigli Filho.
