São Paulo – Saudi company Neom Green Hydrogen Co. (NGHC) has signed agreements to enable the construction of a green-hydrogen-based ammonia plant. Agreements were signed with local, regional, and international banks to provide credit and a letter of commitment to the Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF).
The plant is planned to be built in the futuristic city of Neom, which expects to receive investments of USD 500 billion. Using wind and solar energy, the plant could produce 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia, generating up to 600 tonnes a day of green hydrogen. The news was published on the Arab News website based on a statement from NGHC, a joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and Neom.
According to the company, when it operates in 2026, it could be the world’s largest ammonia production plant based on green hydrogen. The company informed production could be entirely aimed at exports through an exclusive long-term agreement with Air Products, a US-based company specializing in selling gases and chemical products for industrial purposes.
At the event for the signing of the agreements, NGHC CEO David R. Edmondson said the company’s mission is to accelerate the global green hydrogen economy, in line with Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s strategic plan for economic diversification. Edmondson stressed the importance of cooperation from the investment community to make the product viable. SIDF vice president Sultan bin Khalid signed the agreement (pictured above, left, with Edmondson).
