São Paulo – This Friday (22nd), UN Radio announced that Saudi Arabia has donated US$ 5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Unrwa). The funds will be used for purchasing food for people in the Gaza Strip.
According to UN Radio, the donation was made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Campaign for the Relief of the Palestinian People of Gaza, established in 2009 by the Saudi government. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is the title used by the Saudi king, Abdullah Bin Abdelaziz Al Saud.
The Unrwa general commissioner Filippo Grandi said 800,000 people in Gaza depend on UN programs on a daily basis due to the economic blockade imposed on the territory by Israel.
