São Paulo – The Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes will be one of the headliners of the Abu Dhabi Festival, a cultural event due from March 3rd to April 2nd in the United Arab Emirates. The show ‘Beats from Brazil’ will take place on the evening of March 20th. It will be his first performance ever in a Gulf country.
Mendes is a producer, composer, keyboardist and vocalist. A leading name within the bossa nova movement, he has recorded 35-plus albums and is a three-time Grammy winner. In 2012, he received his first nomination for an Academy Award in the ‘Best Original Song’ category for the song Real in Rio, from the motion picture Rio.
The repertoire of the concert in the Arab country will include Mas que Nada, The Fool on the Hill, The Look of Love, Magalenha, Águas de Março and Garota de Ipanema. Mendes has recorded with famous international artists of the likes of Justin Timberlake, John Legend and Black Eyed Peas. In 2009, the Brazilian artist performed in Morocco’s Mawazine festival, held annually in the capital Rabat.
The Abu Dhabi Festival was created in 2004 and is held by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation. The event features artists from all over the world and will also include film screenings, photo exhibits and experimental theatre performances.
Tickets for Sérgio Mendes’ concert are already on sale for prices ranging from 93.75 dirhams (US$ 25) to 262.5 dirhams (US$ 72). The prices will change after January 10th.
