Rio de Janeiro – The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Brazil grew 0.5% in the third quarter of this year, as against the previous quarter. In the second quarter, the growth was 1.8%. The figures were disclosed today (9) by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
According to the IBGE, the growth in the third quarter was 6.7% when compared to the same period last year. The GDP growth accumulated for the year has totalled 8.4% as against the first three quarters of 2009. In the accumulated result for the first 12 months, the growth is 7.5%.
The IBGE has also revised the figures for 2009 , stating that the country economy retracted 0.6%, and for the first half of 2010, to 9.2%, as against the first half of last year.
Services were the only productive sector to present growth in the third quarter of this year, as against the previous quarter. The sector presented growth of 1% in the period, whereas the sectors of agriculture and industry dropped 1.5% and 1.3%, respectively.
The gross formation of fixed capital, that is, investment, had growth of 3.9% in the period. Family consumption also presented growth, 1.6%. Government consumption remained stable.
In a comparison between the third quarter of this year and the same period in 2009, all sectors presented growth: industry (8.3%), agriculture (7.0%), services (4.9%), gross formation of fixed capital (21.2%), family consumption (5.9%) and government consumption (4.1%).
In the accumulated result for the year, the rates are: industry (12.3%), agriculture (7.8%), services (5.7%), gross formation of fixed capital (25.6%), family consumption (6.9%) and government consumption (4.1%).
