Rio de Janeiro – Services sector activity slowed by 1.9% in January from December, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Friday (16). Its Monthly Services Survey showed that the drop came after two hikes, at 1% in November and 1.5% in December. Activity was also down year-on-year in January, by 1.3%, and in the 12 months through January, by 2.7%.
Four of six subsectors saw a slowdown in activity in January from December. The biggest drop was seen in transportation, auxiliary transportation services and postal services (3%). Professional, administrative and complementary services slid by 1.4%. Services rendered to families also slid, by 0.6%, as did information and communication, by 0.2%.
