São Paulo – Brazilian soap opera O Clone (The Clone), from 2001, which was partly shot in Morocco and was successful in Brazil and abroad, will be rerun starting on Monday (10th) on the TV Globo network. Written by Glória Perez and directed by Jayme Monjardim, O Clone narrates the love story between Jade and Lucas, who meet in Morocco.
The soap opera, which has been screened in Morocco itself and several other Arab countries, will be aired again on Vale a Pena Ver de Novo (It Is Worth Seeing Again), from Mondays through Fridays in the afternoon. The love story between Jade and Lucas captivated Brazilian audiences, who were able to learn a few things about the cultural differences between Muslim religion and Christianity, because Jade, played by actress Giovanna Antonelli, is a Muslim and falls in love with a Christian who lives in Brazil.
The beginning of the plot, which takes place in the 1980s in Morocco, unfolds into Rio de Janeiro, almost twenty years later. When the soap opera was first shown, with lots of partying, colourful clothes, scarves and Arabic words, it became a fad in Brazil, where the youths started smoking narghiles, taking belly-dancing classes and wearing some Arabic words in their daily life.
