São Paulo – Casa Brasil, a project for social, cultural and digital inclusion located in neighbourhood Ponte Alta, in the city of Guarulhos, will promote, starting today (23rd), the Week of Palestine and the Middle East. Up until next Sunday (27th), the premises, which are maintained by the federal government and the Guarulhos City Hall, will host a series of cultural and educational activities themed after the Arab country. According to information supplied by the Casa Brasil team, the aim is to showcase what else there is in Palestine, aside from the war with Israel.
The program starts this Wednesday with a mystical celebration for peace, followed by a screening of films about Palestine. On Thursday there will be a debate on the role of women in Palestine featuring scholars, such as geographers, historians and researchers who have published works on the matter, plus a film session and a bingo. The amount raised by the bingo will be forwarded to the community of Palestinian refugees living in Brazil. The activities take place in the afternoon and early evening – except for Saturday.
On Friday, there will be a quiz on Palestine, with questions and answers about the Arab country. According to information supplied by Casa Brasil, the quiz is aimed at the community of adolescents that attend the premises on a regular basis. Casa Brasil is located in the outskirts of Guarulhos and targets the young, economically disadvantaged audience. There will also be a film screening and a belly dancing presentation. The schedule for Saturday includes debates, films and get-togethers, and on Sunday there should be a film session and the “Intifada Hardcore” festival, featuring hardcore bands.
According to information supplied by Casa Brasil, the Week of Palestine and the Middle East is part of the project “Todos os mundos cabem no mundo” (All worlds fit in the world). The program provides for the establishment of cultural weeks, each focusing on a different country or location. The goal is to show the culture of each country and help Brazilians to understand the way of life of other nations in an unbiased manner. Palestine was chosen for the project’s debut due to the conflicted moment that it is currently experiencing, and also because there is a large Palestinian community in Guarulhos. All activities are free of charge.
