Brasília – The secretary general of the League of Arab States, Amr Mussa, stated today (4), during a talk at Rio Branco Institute, the Brazilian academy for diplomats in country capital Brasília, that peace between the Palestinians and Israelis is essential to the stability and development of the Middle East as a whole.
"The reforms of the Middle East will not be different from those of other regions. The Middle East needs economic development; it needs to improve the situation of human rights, women and democracy. Everybody needs a better tomorrow. This is the dream of all countries in the third world, including Brazil and the remaining nations of Latin America. What makes the Middle East different is the existence of this conflict. Stability depends on a solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, mainly with regard to the Palestinian question," he said.
Amr Mussa pointed out, however, that the impasse between the Israelis and Palestinians should not delay the process of political and economic reforms of each individual country.
