Curitiba – The Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (Fiep), through the Paraná state National Service of Industrial Education (Senai) and in partnership with the Santa Catarina state Senai, will offer, starting in 2006, the post-graduate course in Fashion and Management. This is the first post-graduate course in the area in the state and includes the areas of fashion and business management. The objective is to prepare professionals for the management of fashion and for a business strategy.
The course may be justified by the fact that the state of Paraná is one of the largest producers of textile products and garments in Brazil, and has four Local Productive Arrangements (LPAs) in the cities of Cianorte, Apucarana, Terra Roxa and Imbituva. Apart from that, there are others being established. There are around 4,000 companies, which generate approximately 200,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Brazil in turn has the 7th largest textile park in the world and counts on around 30,000 formal companies. According to figures supplied by the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit), together they have revenues of US$ 25 billion a year, contributing with 4.4% of the national GDP.
