São Paulo – Special Operation 2019 by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) kicked off this Monday (17) in a drive to step up inspection at major airports in Brazil. The operation will focus on services rendered by airlines to travelers.
The action will cover 13 airports: Galeão and Santos Dumont, in Rio de Janeiro; Congonhas and Guarulhos, in the Greater São Paulo area; Viracopos, in Campinas; Confins, in Belo Horizonte; Curitiba and São José dos Pinhais, in Paraná; and Porto Alegre, Salvador, Fortaleza, Recife and Manaus.
Operation 2019 will be rolled out in two phases. The first one will last from today to January 6, 2019. The second phase will take place during Carnival season, from February 25 to March 9, 2019. Some 200 Anac staff will be deployed, working shifts to handle peak passenger flows at each airport.
Airlines have submitted their contingency plans for the period to Anac. They have pledged to keep maximum positions for check-ins during peak hours; to keep additional staff in exclusive counters for information and requests; to not overbook flights; to increase cabin crew personnel; and to enhance training to ground teams, among other services.
