Brasília – With the dollar’s appreciation, spending by Brazilians on foreign trips continues to go down. In September, tourist spending abroad totaled USD 1.189 billion, a 30.7% plunge over September of 2017, the Brazilian Central Bank (BC) reported this Thursday (25).
“Spending on foreign travel is the lowest since May 2016,” said the deputy head of the BC’s Statistics Department, Renato Baldini.
From January to September, there was also a decline, with spending abroad totaling USD 13.875 billion. In the same period of 2017, Brazilians spent USD 14.145 billion abroad.
Foreign tourists spent USD 373 million in Brazil in September, and USD 4.513 billion in 2018’s first nine months, against USD 407 million and USD 4.360 billion in the same periods of 2017, respectively.
