São Paulo – The former director of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Supachai Panitchpakdi took office yesterday (01) as the secretary general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad). In his place at the WTO, is now the former commissioner of trade of the European Union (EU), Pascal Lamy.
The Thai Panitchpakdi lead the WTO for three years, before that was the vice prime minister of Thailand and minister of Trade. His predecessor at the Unctad was the Brazilian Rubens Ricupero, who left the position last year.
