Brasília – The National Supply Company (Conab, in the Portuguese acronym) reported this Tuesday (12th) that the grain production in the 2014/2015 harvest should stand at 202.23 million tons. The volume expected increased 1.54 million tons or 0.76% over the previous estimation. Conab had reported in April that the grain crop would reach 200.7 million tons.
According to Conab, the increase is due to the productivity gain of the first crop maize, soybean and wheat. The institution highlighted also that the first estimation of winter crops for 2015 are presented in May. In case the estimation of the supply company is confirmed, the grain crops in 2014/2015 will be of 8.6 million tons or 4.4% higher than the one recorded in the 2013/2014 harvest.
Meanwhile, the estimation of cultivated area stands at 57.21 million hectares. It overcomes in 150,600 hectares, or 0.3%, the cultivated area of the 2013/2014 harvest, which stood at 57.06 million hectares. According to Conab, the highlight of this harvest is the soybean, with an increase of 4.6%, or 1.4 million hectares, over the cultivated area of the previous crop.
