São Paulo – The government of Syria opened a tender to buy 100,000 tonnes of wheat for grinding. The proposals should be presented up to 3:30 pm (Damascus time) of the 5th of next month, to the General Establishment for Cereal Processing and Trade. The proposals will be opened on the day after receipt of the sealed envelopes and will be valid for four days, starting on the limit date for presentation.
The delivery time for the 100,000 tonnes of soft wheat to Syria is two months, starting with the signing of the purchase and sale contract. Transport should total 50,000 tonnes a month (with a 5% margin, up or down). The winner should make a full proposal and stipulate the origin of the product he intends to sell to Syria. Prices should be presented in the "cost freight free out" model, in which the exporter covers the cost up to arrival at the Syrian port.
Brazil did not export wheat to Syria in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, but shipped to the country this year. From January to April 2011, wheat exports to Syria totalled US$ 7.423 million. General Brazilian sales of the product to the country in 2011 totalled US$ 339.2 million. Soft wheat is used for production of bread. Hard wheat, in turn, goes to pasta.
Proposals should be sent to the General Establishment for Cereal Processing and Trade – Damascus – Yousef Alazmeh Square – Albairouti Building up to 3:30 pm on Monday (5), in Damascus. Further information may be collected from the Embassy of Syria in Brazil, at telephone number (+55 61) 3226-0970.
