São Paulo – The Syrian ambassador to Brasília, Ali Diab, will be paid a tribute today (16), in the late afternoon, by the Board of Aldermen of the southeastern Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Diab will receive the Pedro Ernesto medal, granted to prominent people in Brazilian society. The ceremony will be held to mark the Syrian national day, which is April 17th.
The tribute was approved by request of alderman Sami Jorge Haddad Abdulmacih (PDT), and will be held at Plenary Teotônio Villela at 06:30 pm. After the session, a book will be launched entitled "Portuguese for Arab Speakers", written by Professors João Baptista de Medeiros, Geni Harb, Suely Ferreira Lima, Bianca Graziela da Silva, and Heloisa Ellery de Menezes. The ambassador wrote the preface to the book.
