São Paulo – The minister of Electricity of Syria, Ahmad Khaled Al-Ali, said yesterday (21) that he should come to Brazil to participate in the global conference on biofuels, to take place in November, promoted by the government of Brazil. Ali met yesterday with the Brazilian delegation that is in Damascus to present the potential of national industries in the machinery and electronic product sector.
According to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Michel Alaby, who is participating in the mission, the minister has great interest in the bio energy sector, as well as other sources like solar and wind energy, for projects that should be developed in the Arab country. Alaby and the vice-president at the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association (Abimaq), Carlos Nogueira, agreed to prepare an agenda for Ali to learn about the sector in São Paulo.
Among the equipment that Syria is interested in importing from Brazil are electric conductors. "The idea is to schedule some visits to plants in the productive chain of energy equipment in some cities in São Paulo," said Alaby.
Another interest is the establishment of partnerships with Brazilian companies for the transfer of technology. According to Alaby, in the past, the minister had already been sought by a company that made generators, but talks did not progress. Apart from the partners, the minister also stated that Syria is becoming more and more open to the foreign market.
The meeting with Ali was the last engagement of the Brazilian delegation in Syria, which also included the director of the Association of the Brazilian Electric and Electronic Industry (Abinee), Niels Kleer, the director of the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Sami Roumieh, the Market Development manager at the organisation, Rodrigo Solano, and the Foreign Trade coordinator, Francisca Barros.
The Brazilian mission, which had the support of the Embassy of Brazil to Damascus, took place in the sidelines of Damascus International Fair. The event, which is multisectorial, includes a Brazilian stand organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber, and ends today.
Among the previous meetings of the delegation was one with the minister of Economy and Trade of Syria, Amer Husni Lufti, meetings at the Homs Chamber of Commerce a visit to the Syrian-European Business Centre and visits to large Syrian groups that import machinery.
