São Paulo – The government of Syria said activities will resume at the Damascus International Airport (pictured above) on October 1st, with safety measures in place. The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the move was decided upon during a cabinet meeting this week.
Ever since the pandemic broke out in Syria, the Damascus International Airport had been open for repatriation flights only. August had seen the Ministry of Health announce that the government’s coronavirus team decided to allow two such flights a week.
According to SANA, incoming passengers were required to check in at the Ebla Hotel to await their PCR test results. There have been 3,691 confirmed cases and 165 deaths from Covid-19, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The cabinet meeting earlier this week was chaired by Syria’s prime minister Hussein Arnous. The pandemic’s effects on the economy were also in discussion. SANA reported that prices were set for 20 basic items on the basis of true production costs. All commercial businesses are required to comply with the prices stipulated by the Ministry of internal Trade and Consumer Protection or face penalties.
