Brazilian auto exports fell in January. Imports posted its highest share of registered cars since 2014.
Results released by the vehicle manufacturers association revealed a 16% decrease in foreign sales of light commercial vehicles, buses, and trucks.
Foreign automobile sales increased 6.6% in the first month of the year compared to January 2021.
Both foreign sales and production dropped last month. The President of ANFAVEA stated it reflected the obstacles faced by the industry, such as the worldwide shortage of components.
Foreign sales amounted to 95,800 light vehicles, trucks and buses from January to March, up 7.6% from a year ago.
Numbers by Anfavea show that foreign sales from Brazil were down 22.6% year-on-year and 34.7% year-to-date.
Year-to-date, sales reached 139,500 units this year, according to ANFAVEA.
Foreign sales amounted to USD 734 million in September. Shipped volume also went down, driven by weaker demand in Argentina.
Foreign sales of Brazilian-made cars dropped as a result of a trucker strike. Industry association Anfavea expects a rebound.
