The country is already the second-largest exporter of the grain, supplying markets such as China and the Arab world. The production surge occurred with the start of commercial-scale cultivation in Mato Grosso state.

Representatives from Embrapa, ABC agency, and the Inter-American Institute signed a letter of intent to promote technical cooperation between Brazil and African countries. The signing took place during a seminar aimed at fostering dialogue with the continent.

The Arab country provided 110 seedlings of 12 species of date palms for Brazilians to test the commercial viability of producing their fruits in the semi-arid region. In addition to bringing income to local farmers, dates could also be exported.

Embrapa, Brazil’s agricultural research agency, and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will sign a cooperation by the end of the year to bring 30 technicians from African countries for training at Embrapa facilities. The schedule and countries have not yet been defined.

Brazil’s agriculture and livestock minister Carlos Fávaro had a meeting with Arab ambassadors on Wednesday (8) in Brasília, when demands for investments and technological cooperation between the regions were discussed. Arab-Brazilian Chamber participated. Fávaro announced agricultural attachés in two more Arab countries.
