Scientists from the Arab country visited Brazil last week to learn about the practices developed by Brazil’s state-run agricultural center Embrapa to combat pests affecting coconut trees.

The country is already the second-largest exporter of the grain, supplying markets such as China and the Arab world. The production surge occurred with the start of commercial-scale cultivation in Mato Grosso state.
Although exports of the commodity only began in 2023, Brazil is already a major supplier to the Arab country. Companies are expected to seize the opportunity through industry projects and events.

The Arab country provided 110 seedlings of 12 species of date palms for Brazilians to test the commercial viability of producing their fruits in the semi-arid region. In addition to bringing income to local farmers, dates could also be exported.
The outpost will have staff from Embrapa, Fiocruz and the ABC to expand access and expedite requests for support from African countries in domains such as agricultural research and the environment.
Embrapa, Brazil’s agricultural research agency, and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will sign a cooperation by the end of the year to bring 30 technicians from African countries for training at Embrapa facilities. The schedule and countries have not yet been defined.
Brazil’s agriculture and livestock minister Carlos Fávaro had a meeting with Arab ambassadors on Wednesday (8) in Brasília, when demands for investments and technological cooperation between the regions were discussed. Arab-Brazilian Chamber participated. Fávaro announced agricultural attachés in two more Arab countries.
After years of study and research, engineer Adair Gallo Jr. established Terraxy together with his Indian professor Himanshu Mishra. Company has developed innovations that help the desertic soil retain water and nutrients for agriculture.
In 2023 Brazil exported USD 24.7 million, up 4% from 2022. Leading export was tilapia and tilapia products.
Initiative held by the Brazil Africa Institute will be launched on February 17 and aims to welcome 1,000 young people from the continent for technical training.
