In a seminar held by the Arab Brazilian Chamber in Cairo, the Brazilian Agriculture Ministry presented growth prospects for Brazil as a global food supplier and Egypt’s relevant role as a fertilizer supplier to Brazil.

Agriculture, Livestock and Supply minister Marcos Montes met on Monday (9) in Cairo with Egypt’s fertilizer exporters about scaling up the supply. They are expected to visit Brazil for meetings with buyers.
The Brazilian minister of Agriculture and a team from the ministry and the Arab Brazilian Chamber will visit the Arab countries, departing from Brazil this Thursday (5). Mission meetings will discuss, among other subjects, the supply of fertilizers.
Tirso Meirelles met with fertilizer exporters at the Arab Brazilian Chamber international office in Dubai last week. The goal is to help solve the sector’s supply issues and keep crops’ productivity levels, especially in small and medium-sized properties.
The Brazilian branch of the US-based company expects to import 100,000 tonnes of phosphate from Saudi Arabia this year. The company also buys lesser amounts of sulfur and monoammonium phosphate from the UAE.
Former ministers of Agriculture spoke about the impacts of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on Brazilian agribusiness in Terraviva channel’s Agro 360 TV show. Arab Brazilian Chamber president Osmar Chohfi also participated.
A study by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce shows which countries could supply Brazil with the fertilizers Russia exports. The institution presented the analysis to the government to help solve the crisis in the sector.
The Brazilian federal government has set a goal of reducing Brazilian fertilizer imports from the current 85% of purchases to 45% by 2050. The minister of Agriculture stated it is not about self-sufficiency but less external dependence.
Heads of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Arab ambassadors were received by the Brazilian minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, this Thursday (10) to articulate the supply of fertilizers from the Arab countries.
With a low supply of fertilizers from Russia and Belarus, Arab countries can be an alternative for some products, such as nitrogen and phosphate. The bloc, however, does not have a substantial potassium production.
The Brazilian market purchased 41.6 million tonnes of fertilizers in 2021. The product arrived mainly through the Port of Paranaguá.
Trade between Arabs and Brazilians in 2021 reached USD 24.25 billion. The UAE took over as the leading destination for Brazilian products.
Year to date through November, Brazil purchased 100.6% more Arab products compared to 2020. Nevertheless, the balance continued to post a surplus for Brazil.
Producers will be required to direct 55% at the subsidized price of EGP 4,500 (USD 286) instead of EGP 3,300 (USD 210), the Ministry of Agriculture of Egypt said.
