According to Brazil’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, negotiations with the UAE for a free trade agreement have been ongoing regularly since they were launched and were addressed at the Mercosur foreign ministers’ meeting in Montevideo within the broader context of the bloc’s extra-regional agenda.

For the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the United Arab Emirates to progress, online meetings are set to occur in July and August, as well as an in-person negotiation in September. Finalization and signing of the deal are scheduled to November, during the G20 summit in Rio.
The event will address business and occurs on November 19. Egypt’s commercial consul to São Paulo, Mohamed Elkhatib, will give the lecture “The Brazil-Egypt Free Trade.”
The continental agreement entered into effect this Thursday, providing for the lifting of tariffs on 90% of goods traded between 52 of the 55 African Union member countries.
Free-trade agreement came into force in 2017. On Thursday, lectures at the Arab Brazilian Chamber will detail business evolution in this period as well as future perspectives.
The signing of a deal covering 17 non-tariff-related issues is expected to happen in December. Tariffs have been lifted under a previous deal entered into by the Andean country and Mercosur.
The country will join the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) this Wednesday.
