São Paulo – Morocco’s Tanger Med port climbed from 46th in 2018 to 35th in 2019 Lloyd’s List container throughput ranking, local state-run outlet Maghreb Arabe Press (MAP) reported, quoting the Tanger Med Port Authority.
The Authority said the seaport ranked first in container transshipment in the Mediterranean. It has been the biggest container port in Africa for the third year on end.
Last year saw 4.8 million shipping containers handled at Tanger Med, up 38% year-on-year. The second and third busiest ports in Africa were Port Said, in Egypt, and Durban, in South Africa.
